This sculpture is based on a drawing by French artist J. J. Grandville in his work Les Métamorphoses du Jour (1828–29), depicting witty scenes from the day-to-day lives of animals (people). In Czech literature, Grandville was popularised by the work of František Matouš Klácel and his version of the epic poem Reynard the Fox – motifs from which were sculpted by Václav Levý in the man-made Klácelka cave. Levý’s anthropomorphic reliefs were inspired by J. J. Grandville.
